Our story

Jimbobart was founded by illustrator James Ward in 2009.

Inspired by his love of drawing animals and birds, James creates original illustrations on ceramics, homeware, clothing and artwork that mirror or subvert animal behaviour, mirroring human characteristics. He hopes to make people smile – recognising themselves or others – in his designs.

Each piece is designed by James from the Jimbobart studio and shop in Brighton.
Following an Illustration degree at Westminster University and a visit to Sweden, which introduced him to a huge range of natural history surface design on furnishings and homewares, James began creating and selling, first at markets and then opening his first shop on Columbia Road in London. The Jimbobart shop later moved to a larger space in Shoreditch before James made a move to the seaside.

As Jimbobart has grown, we work with UK companies to print and produce quality product ranges, with James continuing to hand draw one-off individual and corporate commissions and original artwork.

Commissions have included: Lacosté limited edition T-shirt, UNIQLO T-shirt range, White Stuff collection artwork, Hyundai department stores South Korea artwork, Harper Collins cover illustration, Folded Wing animation and wall art, Channel4 artwork, Amnesty International plate designs.
